Middle Egyptian: A Student's GuideMiddle Egyptian grammar, glossary and sign lists

About the Author

Dr. Ohad Magori

Dr. Ohad Magori holds a PhD in Biblical Studies from the University of Haifa. His research covers the history of the biblical and pre-biblical eras, the ancient Near East, and ancient Egypt. He reads the texts in their original languages and in their cultural context, and examines the connections between biblical literature and the world of the neighboring cultures.

Alongside his academic research he is a lawyer, holding bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law, and a practicing attorney. The combination of law and the texts of the ancient Near East lies at the center of his research, chiefly the study of ancient law as a legal system: its logic, structure, and principles, and not merely as a literary or historical text.

The site grew out of his studies. It aims to give students a systematic, accessible, and free guide to Middle Egyptian, all in one place:

Internal links make it easy to move between the grammar, the glossary, and the signs, and the search finds any word or term.
